Our History
The Florence Islamic Center was established in 2012 in response to the growing need for a dedicated place of worship, learning, and community for Muslims in the Florence, SC area. What began as a small effort by committed believers has, by the grace of Allah SWT, grown into a thriving masjid serving a diverse and expanding Muslim community.
From its inception, Florence Islamic Center has been rooted in the teachings of Islam, striving to maintain the houses of Allah through prayer, charity, knowledge, and righteous conduct. The Florence Islamic Center serves as a spiritual home for Muslims—providing guidance, education, and support for those seeking to strengthen their faith, as well as for individuals who express an interest in learning about or embracing Islam.
Alongside nurturing the Muslim community, FIC is committed to fostering understanding and respectful relationships with the wider society. Through open engagement, service, and exemplary character, the Florence Islamic Center seeks to reflect the mercy and justice at the heart of Islam.
As Allah Almighty says in the Qur’an:
The mosques of Allah are only to be maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day, establish prayer, give zakat, and fear none but Allah. It is they who are expected to be among the rightly guided.”
(Surah At-Tawbah, 9:18)
Guided by this verse, the Florence Islamic Center continues its mission to be a place of worship, unity, and service—dedicated to the pleasure of Allah SWT and the well-being of the community it serves.
